OVERVIEW OF MAXILLOFACIAL TRAUMA, DEFINITIONS, EPIDEMIOLOGY, MANAGEMENT, AIRWAY, CIRCULATION, BLEEDING CONTROL, SYSTEMIC ANTIBIOTIC PROPHYLAXIS AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

Introduction: Injuries to facial bones, orbits, and adjacent soft tissue structures are common. They usually caused by motor vehicle accidents. Scientific evidence has shown that maxillofacial trauma is related severe injuries, so a meticulous evaluation of the injuries should be performed because they can have devastating sequelae. The treatment these situations complex challenging, since in addition compromising esthetic aspect, it also compromises function multiple causes psychological damage. Objective: detail current information trauma, definitions, epidemiology, management, airway, circulation, hemorrhage control, prophylaxis with systemic antibiotics surgery. Methodology: total 52 articles were analyzed this review, including review original articles, as well clinical cases, which 39 bibliographies used other not relevant for study. sources PubMed, Google Scholar Cochrane; terms search Spanish, Portuguese English were: fractures, airway management antibiotic prophylaxis, Results: oral-maxillofacial represents approximately 7.4 8.7% medical emergencies.
